Star Trek fans have had a lot of criticism and applause for the 2009 reboot of Star Trek by J. J. Abrams. In defense of J. J. there’s no way he could make everyone happy, so I believe he went with the most intelligent approach, make Star Trek enjoyable for the mainstream audience. In defense of the fans, WHAT THE HECK MAN? It’s like you blew the whole Star Trek franchise out one of Gallactica’s launch tubes! I mean, the Okuda’s are going to have to completely rewrite the entire encyclopedia. OK, I’ve geeked out enough. It’s been a couple of weeks since we did a Friday Funnies article here on Deemable Tech. This week’s isn’t hilarious, as much as it is just plain fun. Have you ever wondered how astronauts wash their hands in space? Me neither! I’ve wondered about how astronauts do almost every other bodily function in space, but it never crossed my mind to think about cleaning up. I’m not sure what that says about me. There’s something about the unbridled enthusiasm of youth that can make you feel like you can do anything. Favorite quotes: “The world needs you to stop being boring… Yeah, you!” and “Not cool, Robert Frost!” And my absolute favorite, “It’s like that dude Journey says…” Nah, never mind. I won’t ruin it for you. Just watch.

I’ve seen all three Toy Story movies. (I definitely cried during Toy Story 3. Once during the trash scene. Once when Andy was saying goodbye.) I’ve seen all of the Toy Story shorts films. I’ve ridden both of the Toy Story rides at Walt Disney World several times. My daughter owns full-size, talking Woody, Buzz and Jessie dolls. I thought I was a fan. But unlike these folks, I never thought to recreate a full length live action version of Toy Story. There is something amazing about this. I can’t imagine how much time and dedication it took to create an hour and twenty minutes worth of video that is almost exactly the same as the movie, frame by frame. I am ashamed of myself.

Schadenfreude: pleasure derived from the misfortune of others. Whether we’d like to admit it or not, it is sometimes really funny to watch someone else get hurt, especially if they were in the middle of doing something remarkably stupid. Whether it was called slapstick or physical comedy, Schadenfreude has been a part of humor since the dawn of humanity. Comedians are great at faking it, but the funniest Schadenfreude has always been watching real people make really dumb decisions. In the old days, the only place you could watch videos like this were on America’s Funniest Home Videos. Nowadays, anyone with a smart phone can upload your humiliation to YouTube within seconds, and let the whole world laugh at you. On the Internet, we don’t call them Schadenfreude ; we just call them fail videos. Here’s a few examples of the funniest fails of 2012. Both the Republican and the Democratic candidates for President have said that they want to grow the U.S. economy, and they have been doing that throughout this campaign. If it seems like the airwaves and the Internet have been filled with nothing but policital ads for the past few months, it’s because that’s mostly true. Both campaigns, and the super PACS that support them, have purchased a combined $900 million worth of ads! That’s $300 million more than at the same time in 2008. If the current rate of spending remains the same, they will likely surpass $1 billion in ad spending for the first time in history. For the states that are getting the majority of the ads, Ohio, Florida, Virginia, Colorado, Iowa, and North Carolina, this is a much needed infusion of cash into their state’s economy.

But, with the final days of the campaigns winding down, folks on both side of the aisle are getting tired of the mixed messages from both campaigns of hope, prosperity, fear and worry.
